CPG Consultants wins three honours at the ACES Design Excellence Awards 2026

CPG Consultants has been recognised for engineering excellence at the ACES Design Excellence Awards 2026, receiving the Excellence Award for Bidadari Integrated Park and the Merit Award for NUS Executive Centre (The Ridge).

Organised by the Association of Consulting Engineers Singapore (ACES), the Design Excellence Awards recognise projects that demonstrate outstanding engineering design, innovation and quality.

The Excellence Award for Bidadari Integrated Park recognises an innovative project that demonstrates how engineering can strengthen flood resilience while enhancing the quality of urban public spaces. The park’s design philosophy centres on integrating nature, respecting heritage, and enhancing the landscape.

A key attraction of Bidadari Park is the 1.8-hectare Alkaff Lake — both a scenic centrepiece and a first-of-its-kind multifunctional drainage system. Engineered as a high-capacity stormwater retention system, it manages runoff from a 43.5-hectare catchment, gradually releasing water through controlled outlets to mitigate flash floods downstream. In doing so, it restores the site’s natural hydrology, paying homage to the spirit of the original Alkaff Gardens. The design incorporates innovative water management solutions, including the application of ABC Waters principles within floodplains and the use of vortex-induced separators to improve water quality. Rather than concealing critical infrastructure, the complex hydraulic systems are seamlessly embedded within the landscape, delivering effective flood resilience and environmental protection while preserving the park’s heritage and cultural character.

By bringing together engineering, landscape architecture and environmental design, Bidadari Integrated Park showcases how resilient infrastructure can become an integral part of the public realm. The project sets a strong example of how multidisciplinary collaboration can create climate-adaptive, people-centric spaces that support both ecological sustainability and community wellbeing.

Dr Chi Bui, Vice President (Climate Resilience Studio) of CPG Consultants receives the Excellence Award for the Bidadari Integrated Park project on behalf of the CPG team.

The Merit Award for NUS Executive Centre (The Ridge) recognises a new benchmark in sustainable hospitality within a university environment. Located on the NUS Kent Ridge Campus, the 185-key, eight-storey development combines premium accommodation with sustainability, digital innovation and operational excellence to support the University’s long-term vision.

From the outset, architects, engineers, sustainability specialists and university stakeholders worked closely to integrate design, performance and lifecycle considerations into every stage of the project. This collaborative approach ensured the development became a seamless extension of the wider campus ecosystem.

Provisionally Certified Green Mark Platinum (Super Low Energy), The Ridge adopts a comprehensive Whole Life Carbon approach, accounting for 100% of substructure and superstructure materials and 94% of MEP materials. Its high-performance building envelope, green façades, external shading and naturally ventilated corridors reduce heat gain and cooling demand while enhancing occupant comfort and wellbeing.

The development also incorporates highly efficient engineering systems, including a high-performance chiller plant, 100% LED lighting with daylight harvesting controls, and heat recovery technology that repurposes waste heat to generate hot water. These features are supported by a robust digital information framework that enables efficient operations, maintenance and long-term asset management.

Beyond project excellence, CPG’s commitment to nurturing engineering talent was also recognised with the ACES Young Consulting Engineer of the Year Award. Presented to outstanding young consulting engineers in Singapore, the award recognises individuals who have demonstrated exceptional design and engineering capabilities while making significant and sustained contributions to the profession. Mr Eng Zheng, Principal Engineer (Civil & Structural Engineering) at CPG Consultants “”Engineering is ultimately about creating safe, resilient spaces for people. Every calculation and design decision contributes to the strength and reliability of the built environment and knowing that our work forms the foundation of communities is both a responsibility and a privilege,” says Eng Zheng.

Together, the three awards reflect CPG Consultants’ commitment to engineering design excellence and its ability to deliver multidisciplinary solutions that create lasting value for communities and the built environment.
